Mango wood is a tropical hardwood from an evergreen tree. Since this tree produces nutritious fruit (mangos) it is allowed to live fruit bearing life and it is only cut down and used for timber after the end of its production life. That is why this wood can be considered as “Environmentally Friendly Timber“. Mango wood is strong and durable with the added quality of being highly water-resistant. It is not as heavy has Sheesham wood, which is an added benefit for those wishing to move furniture frequently.
Mango wood is suitable for all kinds of paints. However, it is extremely important for this kind of wood to be very well processed before making the furniture because its sapwood is highly susceptible to fungi. In most cases, this is not a well executed treatment so one has to be confident about its source.
Conclusion: Sheesham Wood or Mango Wood?
Both these hard woods offer strength, durability and beauty. However, if you want a smooth finished wood with natural markings, we recommend that you go for Sheesham wood. Its higher grain capacity makes it more durable and also makes the texture of (stain) finishing on Sheesham wood even more vivid when compared to Mango Wood.
